Desi hangover is essentially a foster community youth enterprise, whose story started in egypt. here our co-founders got tremendous admiration for their indian kolhapuris from interns of various ethnicities. they realized the potential of indian products in a global market and traveled back to india with the idea of a youth enterprise. during their initial research the co-founders were introduced to the shrewd reality of indian rural life. they saw various artisan communities striving to keep their heritage alive. unfortunately, due to lack of awareness and quality resources, making footwear hardly fetched the artisans money enough to feed their families. here, the idea of a youth enterprise got a new dimension. concluding that theirs would be a social enterprise, our co founders decided to make community development an integral part of their entrepreneurship.an uncertain present and a blurry future obligated the artisans to hold on to their past- a legacy of 800 years in the field of handcrafted footwear. we decided to support them in this very venture. going to the roots of every obstacle that hindered this ancient art from getting the price it deserved, our co-founders started formulating solutions to pave way for a 360 degree business model. our approach is best put in the phrase-”giving is living”. we started by providing our artisans proper resources, a decent livelihood and medical insurance. desi hangover undertook the responsibility to create a fully functional school in the village of our artisans by initiating the “adopt a school” campaign.selling soles to educate souls we took our first step towards bringing about a change in rural india.every pair of shoe that an artisan makes directly contributes to the education of his child. a motivated artisan starts our value chain and a happy child with a bright future is precisely where it ends. today, the community is able to preserve its heritage and educate its children solely by pursuing their passion.
