The story of impact106: knowledge is a blessing and a curse at the same time, and with knowledge comes an obligation to refuse to tolerate indifference from yourself and others around you. we are a small group of friends who met during the kellogg executive mba program. as technology advances at a rapid pace, we have been fortunate enough to gain an understanding of the immense potential in front of us created by a highly automated world with true artificial intelligence augmenting the human experience and quality of life. while we choose to see a bright and optimistic future, we also see an undercurrent of collateral damage swelling below the surface as jobs are displaced and a segment of our workforce loses their sense of purpose. these are issues of great concern that currently lie on the periphery of public discourse. in the fall of 2017 we began our mission, with a hope that through our collective grit and humility, we can bring an issue that lies on the peripheral of our society to the center stage. mission: provide practical thought leadership via a think tank forum, to our peers, relating to the downstream societal impact caused by automation, and the future of work to close the gap between current skills and future needs. in sharing relevant content, personal stories and industry data, impact106 seeks to become a catalyst for collaboration and change on how we as leaders remain relevant, competitive and compassionate in tomorrow's economy. as we face questions relating to automation, digitization and the overall future of work we must balance ethical societal implications with investor and shareholder responsibilities. problem: due to advancements in technology and automation, coupled with a lack of understanding and foresight by corporations and executives/decision makers, people are losing jobs and will continue to do so at an exponential rate. many of the skills possessed by the workforce with advanced degrees, will be automated creating downstream economic and social issues.
